Are the Mormon's lifestyles and beliefs directly related to their health?

Erica H.

The Mormon religion is considered to be one of the healthiest religions compared to the others.  This is mainly because they go by a strict diet but also a lifestyle that avoids the societies bad temptations.  In the 1800s when the religion came about, it was a recommendation to not drink coffee, tea, alcohol and not to use tobacco.  This recommendation turned into a commandment amongst the religion.  Along with these restrictions, they use diet moderation when it comes to other foods.  This diet includes very little meats and lots of fruits, herbs and grains.  Studies have shown that Mormons have a longer life expectancy, less cancer and less heart disease amongst the group.  Their lifestyle can be compared to the National Cancer's Institutes recommended lifestyle practices, which is an explanation as to why they have less cancer.  It seems that the religion is mostly focused on being thankful for the mind and body and taking good care of it in order to be happy and serve their purpose.  Their beliefs and lifestyles are directly related to health in a good way, especially since they stand strong against the problems we have in society today such as obesity, children out of wedlock, addiction, etc.
