how can you talk to a family member about quitting smoking without making them feel attacked?

When family members have bad habits that can affect certain ways of a persons everyday life it can cause a lot of conflict and tension. In the long run though, making this person stop can help in many different aspects of life for the better; but in the eyes of the person with an addiction, it seems like you are attacking them making them do something they do not want to. The way you approach the person can set the mood of the conversation and the outcome of what your are ultimately trying to do. First you should talk to your family member about their smoking problems and quitting, so giving them simple advise and motivation can help without fully confronting them or putting them on the spot. Another way is by asking for professionals to do the same and give advice on safe ways in stopping. smoking is a proven health hazard, there is no benefit to smoking and there are clear and many benefits to stopping.
