Global access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and
proper hygiene education can reduce illness and death from disease leading to
improved health. Worldwide, 780 million
people do not have access to an improved water source and about 2.5 billion people
lack access to improved sanitation. An estimated 801,000 children younger than
5 years old die from diarrhea each year, mostly in developing countries. That’s 2,200 children every day. Water, sanitation and hygiene has the
potential to prevent at least 9.1% of the global disease and 6.3% of all
deaths.
