Are there any other Models of Change besides the
Transtheoretical Model that may apply better or be more effective for other
people?
Luke Newman
In class we
discussed the Transtheoretical model of change to assess where a patient is on
a model in terms of making a change in their lives. We discussed in class a person quitting
smoking and how we could assess where they are on the Transtheoretical
model. Another model for determining
health behavior of a person is the Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior suggests that
health behavior can be framed and analyzed in terms of rational planning. It incorporates social pressures as well as
the patient’s belief about how others view their current situation. It is similar to the Transtheoretical model
but it puts more emphasis on how others view them. This can be problematic I think because we
discussed how important that others change for themselves, not for an external
motivating force.
