Being that we are right in the midst of cold/flu season and
it seems like everyone around us starting to get hit with the first illnesses
of the season, I am curious to know how to avoid getting sick during the time
where virtually everyone gets sick. Of course there is no way to completely
avoid getting sick with a cold, but there are definitely some precautions that
we can all take to decrease our likelihood of getting sick and further
spreading our germs. First thing is first, ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS!! I know this
sounds so cliché and we are all sick of hearing it at this point, but it really
is our first line of defense. Our hands come into contact with so many
different germs and with so many people in our everyday lives, but by washing
them we are preventing these germs from entering into our bodies through
contact with our mouths and hands. Carrying around hand sanitizer can
definitely benefit us as well. Another line of defense that we are able to take
advantage of is the flu shot. I know there is a lot of controversy over the
effectiveness of this vaccine so I have taken the liberty of researching some
pros and cons of getting the shot. What I was able to conclude is that from
season to season, the effectiveness of the shot varies, as well as from person
to person. The flu shot is always a good thing to keep in mind, but if you are
the type of person who knows it doesn’t work well for you, then certainly don’t
feel pressured into getting one. Finally, STAY HYDRATED! This is true for all
illnesses, but staying hydrated when you are fighting off a cold or the flu is
key. I hope these have been some helpful tips, and good luck staying healthy!!
