What parts in the U.S. are affected the most from obesity?

More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Conditions are heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes, and certain types of cancer. The annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was extremely high being 147 million dollars. The medical costs of obese people was much higher than people of normal weight. Some groups are affected more than others from obesity. For example, non-hispanic blacks have the highest age adjusted rates of obesity (49.5%). A 2012 survey stated the following: the top 13 states had the highest obesity prevalence greater than 30%; Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Therefore concluding which parts in the U.S. are affected the most from obesity; high prevalence of adult obesity were found in the Midwest (29.5%) region and in the South (29.4%). Sadly, there was a dramatic increase of obesity in the United States between 1990-2010, and obesity rates are continuing to rise. The increase of obesity prevalence in adults is rising with adults of all income statuses and educational levels.
