After listening to Mormon elders speak in class and doing some research, I realized that the Mormon faith is not much different from Christian faith, other than their following of Joseph Smith's teachings. Joseph Smith was a Christian in the 1800's seeking answers about his faith and, according to mormon.org, two messengers from God appeared to him and gave him instructions to restore the Christian church. He wrote the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles years before he died, which Mormons still follow today.
So how do followers know that Joseph Smith is indeed a prophet of the Lord and reveals vital passages giving way to the restored church of Jesus Christ? I was unable to find an answer to that question. I suppose they have to trust and have faith in what they believe in.
