If Spirituality plays such a key factor in health, does this mean people who are not connected to a religion are not as healthy?

Spirituality and religion have a lot of positive outcomes in terms of health; physically, mentally and emotionally. Its shown to have major benefits being spiritually and religiously intact. Recent medical studies have shown and indicated that spiritual people have a lot slimmer self-destructive behaviors which can include the following; suicide, smoking, and drug and alcohol abuse. This has also been proven to help have less stress, and greater life satisfaction. Its more shown in patients of older assorts(elderly). This is typically the case because spiritual life is tied to good health for all ages. Being in touch with spirituality is also been shown to reduce depression, improve blood pressure, and boost the immune system. Scientists have avoided the study of spirituality in connection with medicine in the past but it is picking up in the last 10 years. This has picked up because studies show that religion and faith can help to promote good health that can fight diseases. Another thing that helps promote health with these two is having good social support like religious groups and friends. Another reason why these two are connected with healthier life styles is because its an important part of life and how certain people cope with joys and hardships. Faith can provide people with a sense of purpose and have certain guidelines for life and the way they live. Also religion can help people fight feeling of helplessness when certain close family members have illnesses and diseases giving them a sense of control. The big connection in religion, health and spirituality is the mental state.
