How can a vegan diet affect ones health in a negative way?

The world service project about the fad diets really caught my interest because of the studies and things people say why these diets are good or bad. Personally I have always wondered why people decide to have a complete vegan diets and cut out many of the important food groups individuals need to have a healthy diet. I decided to look up how a vegan diet can negatively affect someone's health. As I did some research I found that a strict vegan diet can cause deficiencies in important vitamins or nutrients that are important for everyday health. B12 vitamin is very important and something that vegans lack because it is not often found in plants or fruits. It is suggested that vegans should being taking a supplement of B12 to give them that source of nutrients that they need. Also it is important that vegans are getting a good amount of vitamin D since this is another deficiency vegans have. Protein and calcium are the clear and widely known deficiencies of a vegan. A lot of vegans can gain their protein in other ways through vegetables or vegan protein powder. Yet not getting the natural way of protein through meat is better for your health overall. One main issue with vegans is not getting an appropriate amount of calcium or if any for that matter. Majority of vegans use soy milk as there intake of calcium but some who follow very strict vegan diets don't even like drinking that. Once again they need to be taking supplements to be able to get amount of calcium they need in their body to avoid later issues such as osteoporosis and having very brittle bones in old age.  Overall a vegan diet isn't necessarily a unhealthy diet if used in the correct way but a down fall is not getting the natural ways of the food groups and having to take multiple supplements to maintain a healthy way of eating.
